The market for sub-4 metre cars is growing tremendously and that's exactly why we have seen more and more car makers bringing in models in this class. Maruti already has the Swift DZire, Honda has the Amaze. Hyundai recently introduced the Xcent and Tata Motors brought in the Zest. Volkswagen though doesn't have an offering in this class of cars.
In a recent announcement at the 2014 Paris Motor Show, Dr. Heinz-Jakob Neußer, Head of Powertrain Development at Volkswagen Group declared that they are planning a new sub-4 metre car specifically for the Indian market. This new car is expected to be based on the Polo platform.
The new Volkswagen offering, codenamed Polo Stuffe will not only share the PQ25 platform with its hatchback sibling but also be offered with the same powerplants. The Petrol Polo Stuffe will come with a1.2-litre engine while the diesel will go on sale with the new 1.5-litre unit. Like we have seen with the Polo and the Vento expect more powerful GT TSI and GT TDI versions to follow as well.
Set to slot between the Polo and the Vento, the Polo Stuffe will surely be an interesting addition to a segment that already has some pretty promising offerings.
