As the winner of the prestigious ‘Green Car’ Awards by reputed automotive portals, magazines and automotive rating agencies all over the world, the Nissan Leaf has established itself as a superior EV very early in its existence. However, while the Leaf’s impressive range and zero emissions have earned it a great reputation globally, a recent survey revealed that the Nissan Leaf is in fact a very safe Electric Vehicle to be driving around in.
Standard safety systems in the Nissan Leaf include an Advanced Air Bag System (AABS) with dual-stage supplemental front air bags with seat belt and occupant classification sensors and side impact supplemental air bags. Add to this roof-mounted curtain side impact supplemental air bags for front and rear-seat outboard occupant head protection make the Leaf a virtual pin cushion on impact. Other critical safety features include 3-point ALR/ELR seat belts with pretensioners and load limiters, child seat upper tether anchor and child safety rear door locks. To top it all, Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and Traction Control System (TCS) are also standard on all LEAF models.
Based on all these state-of-the art safety and passenger/driver protection features that come standard with the Leaf, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety recently awarded the 2011 Nissan LEAF a "Top Safety Pick" rating.
Representing Nissan North America, Brian Carolin Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing said, "The award confirms that the commitment to passenger safety continues with the 100% electric Nissan LEAF." The Nissan LEAF now joins the Nissan Cube and Infiniti M37/M56 on the list of 2011 Top Safety Picks.
