After rolling out the E 220 d, the G 63 ‘Edition 463’ and the GLS 63 in the country, Mercedes-Benz is now all set to introduce the GLA facelift. The 2017 GLA, which will be launched on July 5, was first showcased at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, USA, earlier this year.
On the outside, the GLA will lose the bi-Xenon headlights for an all-LED setup. The grille is revised and there is a new set of machined alloy wheels for a fresh appearance. In the past few years, we have come to expect higher ground clearance of at least 200mm from SUVs. The new GLA may get its springs lifted to get past that psychological barrier and look butch at the same time.

Inside, it's pretty much the same story, and the GLA will continue to look more or less the same as before save for a few minor tweaks and touch-ups here and there.
Engine options will remain the same - a 2.2-litre diesel engine and a 2.0-litre petrol unit which make 136PS and 183PS, respectively. Both the engines make 300Nm of torque and come paired with a 7-speed dual clutch automatic transmission. The all new-2.0-litre diesel engine that made its debut in the country with the E 220 d will not be offered for now.

The AMG-tuned GLA 45 will also get similar updates and launch later in 2017. The locally-assembled SUV will challenge the BMW X1 and the Audi Q3, but this update may not be enough to become the leader in its segment. The GLA facelift retains its car-like silhouette, which isn't very popular among SUV buyers. The Style and Sport variants of the GLA with a diesel heart currently cost Rs 33.1 lakh and 36.2 lakh, respectively. The GLA petrol is available only in the Sport trim, which is priced at Rs 35.2 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
