Mercedes-Benz India is going to introduce two new models to its lineup on March 25. The facelifted CLS Class four door Coupe will now come with the 2.1-litre 207PS 250 CDI engine. Mercedes will also launch the E-Class Cabriolet possibly in the 3-litre twin turbo V6 E400 variant.
The CLS-Class gets a update to bring it in line with the current crop of freshly designed Mercedes models. That includes the diamond studded grille, new lighting technology and a smashing set of multispoke alloys. The grille is now a single slat with large Mercedes logo housed in the centre, the bumpers are new with gaping air dams. The CLS gets a new set of Multibeam LED headlamps that isn’t just the usual Active bending headlamps but also camera controlled to improve visibility.
The CLS was only offered with a V6 till now but Mercedes wants to increase numbers and there’s nothing like a diesel engine to get them that. So the CLS now gets a 2.1-litre four cylinder diesel mill producing 207PS of power and 500Nm of torque. It comes mated to a new 9-speed automatic transmission that Mercedes states has helped reduce fuel consumption.
On the other side of the Coupe will be a Cabriolet. The Cabriolet is that of the E-Class and will most likely be the E400. The E-Class cabriolet has two doors and a electric soft top that can be opened or closed at speeds under 40kmph. While its predecessor was sold with a naturally aspirated engine, the new E-Class will get a twin turbo V6 capable of dishing out 338PS of power and 480Nm of torque. The E400 can do the 0-100 kmph sprint in 5.3 seconds.
