Country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki India today said its operations are not impacted by the reported global recall of over 1 lakh Swift compact cars by its Japanese parent Suzuki.

"The Swift cars made and sold in India by Maruti Suzuki is not impacted by this recall," a Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) spokesperson said.

According to reports, Suzuki Motor Corp (SMC) today announced recalling about 1,09,000 units of hatchback Swift worldwide to repair a defect that may cause petrol leakage.

Quoting an SMC spokesperson, media has reported half of the recalls will take place in Japan.

The cars to be recalled were produced between September, 2010 and April, 2012, it said.

It is said out of the total recalls, 55,146 units were sold in the domestic market and 53,801 units were exported to various countries such as Australia, Mexico and European nations, the SMC spokesman was quoted.

According to media reports, Suzuki said in a statement that an inadequate connection on the rubber fuel filler hose may cause petrol leakage and four such cases have been reported in Japan, but they did not lead to any accidents.

"There have been no reports of such defects abroad," the spokesman was quoted in the news report.

Suzuki had launched a new Swift last year in India and other global markets. The previous Swift was produced at seven plants around the world and was sold in over 100 countries.

In India too, MSI had introduced the new version of the Swift at an aggressive introductory price starting from Rs 4.22 lakh to Rs 6.38 lakh in the highly competitive premium compact car segment.

Built on an all-new platform, MSI and its suppliers had invested over Rs 550 crore on the new car. The Swift has been a runaway success since its launch in India in 2005.
