Surprise, Maruti’s Futuro-e Is A Coupe-style Electric SUV! And It’s Coming To Auto Expo

The Futuro-e came into the limelight when Maruti Suzuki filed a trademark for its name. We initially thought it’ll be an electric hatchback along the lines of the Future-S concept and the resulting S-Presso hatchback. Various reports then claimed it’ll be an electric SUV. However, we now know that the Futuro-e will neither be an outright SUV nor a hatchback. Teased via an image of its silhouette today, Maruti Suzuki calls it a coupe-style electric concept! And it looks like nothing we’ve seen before. Then, what exactly is it? 

The teaser reveals the side profile of the Futuro-e. The dimly-lit image shows the overall silhouette of the concept and also gives us an idea of the headlamps and tail lamps. Honestly, we can't put our finger on what it is yet. Maruti refers to it as a coupe-style concept and a fusion between an SUV and a coupe. It has a crossover-ish stance but the sleek roofline flows down to give it a coupe guise. The side profile and overall stance also remind us of cars like the Toyota CH-R.

CV Raman, Senior Executive Director (Engineering), Maruti Suzuki India Limited said, “The design of Concept FUTURO-e is a fascinating fusion of a coupé with a SUV. It is a significant departure from the mainstream SUV architecture and is expected to raise the design bar of Utility Vehicles in India.” The headlamps and taillamps feature a distinct design with LED treatment and calling the rear tail lamps large would be an understatement. 

Maruti Suzuki is aiming to strike a balance between conventional SUV attributes like bold looks with coupe elements like the sloping roofline. Pegged as a global design study, the Futuro-e will make its presence felt at Auto Expo 2020. Moreover, it will also be making its global debut at the upcoming expo.
