If you were waiting for the launch of new electric cars in India, Mahindra and Mahindra heard you. The company, which is a part of the US $17.8 billion Mahindra Group, has a sister concern called “Mahindra Electric.” Mahindra Electric has announced on Friday, October 7, 2016, that its new electric car will be called “e2o Plus.” Mahindra Electric says the name is an amalgamation of “e2o” and “Plus,” the former standing for energy to oxygen and the latter for positive contributions this car will make in users' lives. Considering the fact that pollution levels are of grave concern in India, this vehicle should be among the most awaited cars in the country.
The e2o Plus is Mahindra Electric's next generation electric car (e2o being the previous generation car) which is expected to be launched soon. Apart from the usual benefits like zero emissions, low running costs, ease of driving and home charging, the e2o Plus is expected to carry stylish exteriors, increased range and faster charging capabilities than the previous generation car.
Speaking on the development, the director of Mahindra Electric, Pravin Shah said, "The e2o Plus is all about positive additions. We have incorporated additional space - something that would delight our customers. We have also added extra range and fast charging, among other very interesting 'pluses'. I am confident that this new model will be a game changer not only in the electric vehicles segment but also among all other categories of cars."
Why the e2o Plus matters is not just because of rising pollution levels but also high fuel prices. An electric car can cut the spending on fuel and still handle the urban duties asked from it. With Tesla's India arrival still up in the air, the e2o Plus is perhaps the only electric car available for masses in India. If it is priced as competitvely as the e2o, expect it to picked up by masses in droves. All we can now do is wait and watch.
