There is a variety of records ranging from sprint times and lap records to top speeds that cars in all segments set and break. However, one interesting record that is exclusive to the hypercar club is the 0-400-0kmph record. It not only tests the hypercar’s sprint times but also its stopping capabilities from mind boggling speeds. Two years ago, former Formula One driver Juan Pablo Montoya set the benchmark for Bugatti in the Chiron with a 0-400-0kmph record in 41.96 seconds. It was short-lived, with Swedish carmaker Koenigsegg improving the record with the Agera RS in 36.44 seconds with a further improvement a month later at 33.29 seconds. This month, however, that record has been beaten -- by Koenigsegg.
Koenigsegg took the Regera to the Råda airfield in Sweden, and in the hands of factory driver Sonny Persson achieved a 0-400-0 kmph run time of only 31.49 seconds. This run is faster than the Agera RS by nearly two whole seconds. It hit 0-400kmph in 22.87 seconds and took another 8.62 seconds to come to a standstill.
Here’s an onboard video of the record run:
This record was helped by the Regera running a 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8 hybrid that generates upto 1500PS mated to a direct drivetrain instead of a conventional gearbox. It propels the hypercar from 0-100kmph in 2.7 seconds, with a top speed of 410kmph.
Koenigsegg’s next potential benchmark could be taking back the top speed record from the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+ that hit 490.48kmph. However, it is technically a prototype with a production-spec confirmed for 30 units. The production units are limited to 440kmph, but customers will be allowed to access the Volkswagen Group's Ehra-Lessien test track and have the limiters removed. For those hoping to get their hands on the Regera, unfortunately all of its 80 units have been sold out. However, Koenigsegg is working on a 300mph+(483kmph+) variant of the Jesko.
