The India-bound Suzuki Ignis has been snapped totally un-camouflaged in Indonesia. The car made its debut at the 2016 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS). The Indonesian launch of the Ignis is expected to take place by the end of 2016.
Globally, the Ignis comes with a 1.25-litre 4-cylinder K12 DualJet petrol motor that produces 91PS of power and 118Nm of peak torque. Also, this engine is coupled to a SHVS mild hybrid system. The India-bound variant, though, is likely to have the 1.2-litre VTVT petrol engine. Maruti might also offer a diesel variant featuring a 1.3-litre DDiS engine, sourced from Fiat. The car will be mated to a five-speed manual transmission as standard while the automatic transmission could be offered as an option.
In terms of design, the Ignis will pretty much stay true to the concept that was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. It features a clamshell bonnet, a black mesh grille with a single chrome slat that runs across it, projector headlamps with U-shaped daytime running lights (DRL) and chrome tipped fog lamps. The side profile has been tweaked by flared wheel arches and three sections on the C-pillar, while only the rear bumper receives a large black insert.
Speaking about the interiors, the Ignis is expected to get the new Harman Kardon touchscreen infotainment system along with dual tone interiors, a new steering wheel, conventional HVAC knob and orange highlights.
The Ignis will be sold through Nexa outlets and will sit below the Baleno premium hatchback. The car is expected to be launched around the festive season and will lock horns with the Mahindra KUV100 and the Ford EcoSport.
