Beat and Spark models continue to make up a large chunk of the GM's overall sales in India

Celebrating its centennial year as a global automotive brand this year, General Motors mainly operates out of its Chevrolet brand in India where cars like the Spark and the Beat hatchback have given the American car maker the maximum mileage for growth and profitability in India.

The company saw a narrow improvement in its sales performance in the month of May this year, selling 8329 units in May 2011 as compared to 8225 units in the same month last year.

The May 2011 sales comprised 3023 units of Chevrolet Spark, 2144 units of the Beat, 1767 units of Tavera, 659 units of the Cruze, 240 units of Optra, 218 units of Aveo, 143 units of Captiva and 135 units of Aveo U-VA.

Commenting on the performance, Mr. P. Balendran, Vice President, GM India said, “Although we have recorded a marginal growth, the numbers are not on the desired lines as the footfalls in the show-rooms have started coming down. Given the hike in interest rates, fuel prices, commodity prices, inflation etc., we expect the market to remain depressed in the coming months as well.

With a wide range of product portfolio including Chevrolet Captiva, Chevrolet Optra, Chevrolet Cruze, Chevrolet Aveo, Chevrolet Aveo U-VA, Chevrolet Spark, Chevrolet Beat and Chevrolet Tavera for sale in India, GM India operates state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Halol, Gujarat and in Talegaon, Maharashtra.
