The punchier version of the Redi Go is almost here, and you can book one for Rs 10,000. It's once again borrowing its powertrain from the Kwid 1.0 as both the cars were born out of the Renault-Nissan alliance. The redi-GO is a little late to the party as it's the only car in its segment without a 1.0-litre engine. Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Renault offer a bigger engine in their entry-level car portfolio.
Given that the 800cc Datsun's output figures were identical to the Renault Kwid 800's, we're certain that the 1.0-litre engine’s power figures will also be carried over without any alterations. That means we can expect the redi-GO's 3-pot motor to deliver 68PS of power and 91Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission will be standard. Following in the Kwid's footsteps, the redi-GO may later get the 5-speed AMT as well. The fuel efficiency figure is expected to hover between 23 and 24kmpl.

The bigger engine will make the redi-GO heavier by about 30kg and take its kerb weight to 680kg. The car won't grow in size though and retain its length, width and height of 3429mm, 1560mm and 1541mm, respectively. That's shorter than the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10, but the redi-GO makes up for that with a taller and wider body. The redi-GO also has a better ground clearance of 185mm compared to the Alto's 160mm.
Healthy ground clearance, high seating position, spacious interiors and lack of quirky ergonomics have made the redi-GO a serious contender in the entry-level car segment. The aggressive price tag further makes it hard to ignore. The formula has worked well for the carmaker, and the redi-GO remains the bestselling car with a Datsun badge.

We're expecting the price tag to remain just as competitive as before and cost about Rs 20,000 more than the equivalent 800cc variant. The T and S variants of the redi-GO are most likely to get the bigger engine with a starting price tag of about Rs 3.3 lakh.
