The 2020 B3 sedan is the closest thing to the much-anticipated 2020 M3

  • The G20 3 Series-based B3 sedan produces 462PS and 700Nm of twist.
  • It will be equivalent to the upcoming M3 in terms of performance.
  • The 7 Series-based B7 sedan packs a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8.
  • The B7, XD3 and the XD4 are already on sale in Japan.

BMW Alpina, which manufactures and sells high-performance versions of BMWs, has showcased four models at the 2019 Tokyo Motor Show. The main attraction being the world premiere of the G20 3 Series-based Alpina B3 sedan, which packs more punch (462PS) and has a host of top-shelf parts to make it stand out from the 3 Series. Equivalent to the upcoming M3 in terms of performance, the B3, in true Alpine fashion, fuses performance with luxury. Alpina also showcased the B7 luxury sedan and the XD3/XD4 SUV duo.

2020 Alpina B3 sedan

Alpina has globally debuted the sedan version of the B3 model that is based on the 2020 G20 3 Series. Power comes from a 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline-six motor producing 462PS and 700Nm of twist. These figures are sent to all four wheels with the help of a ZF-sourced 8-speed transmission. The number game is also strong with the B3 sedan as it reaches 100kmph in 3.8 seconds and is capable of going up till 303kmph. Other goodies include bigger brakes, fully adaptive dampers, Eibach springs, and a cabin that shouts opulence.

Differentiating the B3 from the run-of-the-mill 3 series are front splitters, side skirts, a sportier rear bumper design and not to forget, the Alpina-specific spoked wheels.

The 2020 7 Series-based full-size luxury sedan is the ultimate version of the 7 Series that money can buy today. A 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 produces 600PS of power and close to 800Nm of twist! 0-100 kmph comes up in 3.5 seconds with a supercar similar 329kmph top speed. As usual, Alpina has reworked the chassis and the 8-speed gearbox to extract maximum performance. Aesthetically, the B7 gets different bumpers, side skirts, and tasteful use of chrome along with the classic 20-inch Alpina wheels. The B7 looks classy and the overall design language blends well with BMW’s absurdly large kidney grille.

Alpina XD3 And XD4

Alpina also showcased its duo of SUVs at the Tokyo Motor Show. The X3-based XD3 and the X4-based XD4 were the models on display. The XD3 uses a 3.0 litre six-cylinder bi-turbo engine good enough for 333PS and 700Nm of maximum torque. Other highlights include an AWD system and Alpine-specific visual enhancements. The XD4 also uses the same engine but produces 388PS and 770Nm, which are transferred to all four wheels with the help of a ZF 8-speed automatic gearbox.

Both the SUVs also get all the usual Alpina bits such as the sport suspension, classic wheels and driving experience control. Alpine is also offering a 20-litre AdBlue tank in both the SUVs for decreased emissions.
