Two and three-wheeler major Bajaj Auto on Wednesday reported a four per cent increase in its total sales, including exports, in April at 381,590 units from 367,309 units sold in the corresponding month of last year.

"We will continue with our focused approach as a motorcycle specialist. This is what has enabled us to become the second largest bike-maker in India and the third largest in the world," said K. Srinivas, president, motorcycle business, Bajaj Auto.

"We also continue to be the most profitable motorcycle manufacturer in the world."

The company also reported its highest ever motorcycle sales for April with a growth of six per cent at 342,324 units from 322,235 units sold in the same month of 2011.

However, the company reported a decline of 13 per cent in its sales of commercial vehicles at 39,266 units from 45,074 units sold in April, 2011.

The company's exports grew by seven per cent at 169,010 units in April from 158,422 units shipped out in the corresponding month of 2011.

According to the company, April sales figures reaffirmed its position as the second-largest two-wheeler manufacturer in India.

"We would like to place on record that for the month of April, we continue to be the second-largest two-wheeler manufacturer in India and have a significant lead over the third-largest manufacturer," Srinivas said.

"With a number of new launches planned in the coming months, we are confident of outpacing industry growth in 2012-13," Srinivas said.
