While there were rumours of an entry-level Monster offering but Ducati surprised everyone by riding in the facelift for the flagship Monster 1200. The new Ducati Monster 1200 gets more power, better electronics and minor design updates. The new motorcycle features a new fuel tank that resembles the bulbous tank that is synonymous with the original Monster. The new Ducati Monster 1200 will continue to be offered in two trims – standard and the S version.
Powering the new motorcycle is the latest version of the Testastretta 11° DS motor delivering 152PS of peak power and 126Nm of peak torque while being Euro 4 emission norm compliant. The new motorcycle is an impressive 15PS more powerful than its predecessor in standard trim. Still available in two versions, a standard 1200 and a 1200S, both retain the latest version of the Testastretta 11° DS engine, which is now knocking out a rather healthy claimed 150bhp at 9250rpm – a considerable 15bhp boost over the outgoing model in stock guise, and a cheeky 5bhp more than the outgoing S variant.
The instrument console is a TFT colour display and it continues to sport a single-arm swingarm. The Ride by Wire system has also been refined to offer better throttle response. The wheelbase of the motorcycle has been reduced from 1,511mm to 1,485mm to improve handling. The standard model features Kayaba / Sachs suspension combination while the S model sports premium adjustable Ohlins unit. It gets host of rider aids like ride modes, adjustable traction control, cornering ABS and wheelie control. The bike rides on Pirelli Diablo III tyres while braking hardware has been taken from Brembo. Talking about weight, the standard model variant tips the scale at 211kg while the S model is further 2kg lighter. Seat height can also be adjusted between 795 and 820mm.
