In a recent revelation, Yamaha displayed the 2012 R1. Although the 2012 generation of the bike will host the same 998cc in-line four power plant with a crossplane crankshaft that first made its appearance in 2009, the new version of the bike will have a new to the bike traction control system.
The traction control system has been developed from their MotoGP racing program and has seven levels with 21 settings which come into play with the help of three driver mode systems. The key advantage of the traction control comes into play at the time when the rear wheel starts to spin. It is in times like these that the system controls the fuel injection system, ignition timing as well as the throttle opening to have an optimum level of traction under any road surface.
While the tunning fork brand has introduced traction control in their bikes, little else has been changed to the model. The new version of Japanese manufacturer’s flagship bike has improved aerodynamics, a revamped front fairing and headlamps and most importantly new LED position lamps. Also the adjustable footpegs have been tweaked well for enhanced rider comfort and maneuverability.
The spec sheet of the 2012 R1 remains unchanged from that of its predecessor with identical dimensions, same engine displacement and power, but with the return of completely variable Soqi suspension and the dual six-position Sumitomo caliper braking configuration.
