Fiat has officially unveiled the production versions of its F2X SUV project, which will be sold as the Fiat Grizzly and the Fiat Grizzly Fastback. These two models are positioned in the global lineup above the recently announced Fiat Grande Panda.
In Fiat’s international strategy, the Grizzly duo is expected to indirectly replace existing models like the Fiat Tipo, as well as the South America-specific Fiat Pulse and Fiat Fastback, consolidating its B-segment and C-segment offerings. But does this mark a return of the Italian marque to India? Let’s take a look:
Fiat Grizzly And Grizzly Fastback: What Is It?
The Fiat Grizzly is a family-focused SUV measuring approximately 4.5 metres in length, placing it in direct competition with the upcoming Renault Bigster. Its sibling, the Grizzly Fastback, offers a more stylised alternative with a distinctive sloping coupe roofline. Both vehicles share key design elements, including squared-off wheel arches, an illuminated front grille, connected LED tail lights, black body cladding, and faux skid plates for a rugged look.
A global launch is scheduled by the end of 2026, targeting markets across Europe, the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa. Interior details are yet to be revealed, but Fiat promises a refined design and segment-leading cargo space.
Is Fiat Coming Back To India?
Recently, the Grizzly has been spotted testing in India, with many speculating the return of the Italian brand. However, while Fiat is testing the SUV, it is unlikely that Stellantis will relaunch the brand in India.
That said, what this could mean is a possibility of the Grizzly being produced at Stellantis’ manufacturing facility in Pune and exported abroad, utilising the spare production capacity. Do note that this is also the same facility that produced the Jeep Compass and Meridian, both of which are showing signs of sales slowing down.

Jeep Compass
Do note that Jeep is currently working on an all-new product, which will be developed on the Tata Motors’ ARGOS platform that also underpins the Sierra. Check out this story for more details.
Stellantis' Architecture Play
Underpinning both the Grizzly and Grizzly Fastback is the Stellantis Smart Car architecture. This is a highly flexible platform also used for the Fiat Grande Panda, Citroen C3, Citroen Aircross, and Opel Frontera. The use of this common platform, which is already localised in India for Citroen models, provides significant cost advantages and manufacturing synergies.

Fiat Grande Panda
This shared base allows for a range of powertrains, with the Grizzly set to be offered with Petrol, Petrol Mild Hybrid, and fully electric (EV) options. The petrol engines are expected to be 1.2-litre turbocharged units from the Stellantis family.
ZigSays...
The appearance of the Fiat Grizzly on Indian roads might have sparked a ray of hope for Fiat fans in India. Unfortunately, that may not be the case as a re-entry into the Indian market does not figure in Stellantis’ future plans as it looks to focus and grow Jeep and Citroen with new products expected in the near future.
However, if the Grizzly does end up being produced in India, even if just for export markets, it could signal a renewed interest and lead to further domestic product development, while improving the feasibility of its India operations at the same time.
