About Maruti Gypsy

The original SUV from MSIL. Today the Gypsy mainly caters to the police and defence forces and does not really sell in the private market as competition has moved ahead. Having said that the Gypsy still remains a favourite amongst Indian Rallyists as its simple construction, decent 1.3 liter engine and light body make it easy to modify to suit Indian Rally Sports. Its a no nonsense vehicle that is extremely basic and doesn't boast of any creature comforts. What makes it lose out in the market however is not its age or lack of features, but its relatively high price. It's a brilliant 4x4 that can literally go anywhere, but is best used as a recreational vehicle as its ride quality is best not spoken about.

Maruti Gypsy Overview

July 01, 2017:With GST kicking in, prices of the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy have been revised. The ex-showroom prices have been reduced across variants.

Mumbai: The SUV now starts at Rs 6.29 lakh, as opposed to Rs 6.73 lakh pre-GST. That's a reduction of approximately Rs 44,000.

Delhi: The SUV now starts at Rs 6.16 lakh, as opposed to Rs 6.26 lakh pre-GST. That's a reduction of approximately Rs 10,000.

Do note that prices for insurance are marginally higher, as they are taxed at 18per centinstead of the earlier 15 per cent.

Q. How can increase gypsy mileage? It is comfortable for family use?
  • The Gypsy is meant to be taken off-road. If you're looking for a family car we would suggest you to look for other options such as Maruti Baleno. In order to improve the mileage, we would suggest you to drive slower.Driving fast can reduce your fuel efficiency by up to 33% if you are travelling above 60 mph. It is best to change gears appropriately and match the gear and the RPM carefully. You have to be careful when going to the tuner. Make sure the tuning is just to keep your engine running at the proper revs to provide maximum fuel efficiency. Changing the fuel filter on a regular basis will ensure that your car runs smoothly by letting only fuel into the engine instead of other residue from the tank and a clean air filter promotes better combustion which optimizes fuel economy. The tire pressure should be checked at least monthly because properly inflated tires can improve fuel efficiency by up to 3%. Turning off air conditioner in city driving reduces stress on your engine which increases fuel economy greatly. Whether you use synthetic of natural oil, using an additive can improve fuel efficiency by up to 15%. You can keep these things in mind while maintaining your car.
