Yes it is quite decent at that, i took brv on the ghats of ooty with 8 passengers and it performed efficiently and pulled it self cleanly without any hesitation and loss of rpm, yes unlike diesel you have to keep it in lower gears like 3rd for maximum Torque output

No automatic transmission
