The current line up of international models in the Indian entry level executive sedan bracket is nothing short of impressive. With internationally acclaimed models like the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the Audi A4 3.0 TDI and the BMW 3-Series, Starting at a price range of 25 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) the cars in this segment are not just world-class performers, but also a bang for your buck, giving customers a feel of the very best in the automotive business at a price that is completely out of one’s reach.
Swedish car and bus maker, Volvo has already launched its high end luxury sedan the S80, and its rugged SUV, the XC60 in India. However, now with the launch of its mid-sized ‘all-rounder’ sedan, the S60 in India, Volvo has moved an inch closer to offering its complete line-up of cars in the Indian market.
The premium sedan will be available in both petrol and diesel variants - T6 AWD Petrol with 304 hp and 440 Nm (most powerful engine in its segment) and D5 Diesel with 205 hp and 420 Nm. In addition to being competitively priced, Volvo S60 will offer unique features such as World’s first ‘Pedestrian Detection’ with full auto brake, Advanced Control with Torque Vectoring, Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Laser Assisted Automatic Braking – City Safety, Turn with steering lights (Active Bending Lights) among others.
The 2011 S60 is a serious attempt by Volvo to re-establish its own unique Swedish brand identity in the car making business. It’s refreshing one-of a kind design makes it a very good looking car with a rather prominent sporty stance.
Nice touches to the 2011 model like a seven-spoke turbine-inspired 18-inch wheels, with a drooping headlamp cluster paired with LED fangs and a thin-topped eagle's head taillamps makes this Blazing Copper sedan from Volvo a real head turner. On the inside, the Volvo continues to impress with its single screen, single vertical row console, which offers its master a wide range of connectivity and infotainment options.
Commenting at the launch of Volvo S60, Mr. Göran Larsson, President, Volvo Cars Malaysia, said, “I am extremely delighted to be present here today for the launch of our latest premium sedan offering for the Indian market. This comes at the back of the global launch of the S60 as recent as in Q3, 2010. Volvo S60 has been sculpted to move you and your senses. It is without doubt the most dynamic car model Volvo has ever presented - and its Pedestrian Detection with full auto brake is a groundbreaking safety feature.”
Selling for a competitive price starting from Rs. 27 lakhs (Ex-Showroom, Mumbai without octroi and Delhi) the Volvo S60 will be available through Volvo’s dealerships across the country starting March 2011.
