Tata Motors announced football superstar Lionel Messi as its global brand ambassador yesterday. Along with the announcement, Tata Motors also released its new advertising campaign name #madeofgreat starring Messi himself. While all of this was just enough to tickle the taste buds of football fanatics, there was a small bit for automotive enthusiasts as well. Tata Motors gave us a glimpse of its upcoming hatchback Kite in the promotional video. After bringing in the compact sedan Zest, the Bolt, Tata Motors has now shifted attention to its entry-level hatchback. The ‘Kite’ is essentially a codename for a car that is expected to replace the aging Indica.
Through the video, Tata Motors gave us a glimpse of what the upcoming Kite hatchback will look like. Like the new generation of Tata cars, the new Kite too will sport a smiley grille up front underlined by a chrome strip. At the back it gets wraparound diamond shaped taillights. The video also gave us a sneak peek of the car’s sharp shoulder line.
Under the hood, the Kite is expected to sport a 1.2-litre petrol engine that makes 85PS and 110NM and a new 1.0-litre engine that is expected to make a little less than 70PS and 140Nm. Although there is no confirmation from Tata as yet, the car will possibly be launched at the 2016 Auto Expo. The Kite will go against the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and the Hyundai i10. Expect the Tata Kite to start around Rs 3.5-3.7 lakh.
