Skoda is feeling stronger than ever as it has already sold and delivered one million vehicles worldwide in 2016. This is the third year in a row that the Czech automaker has achieved this milestone. Last year, it was achieved a month later than this year. A huge help in the success of Skoda has been the flagship Superb, which has witnessed a massive sales growth of 85.2 per cent over the same period last year. From January 2016 to today, almost 1,15,000 units of the Superb have rolled off the production line.
The company expects this growth to accelerate next year with the launch of the highly anticipated SUV Kodiaq and the upgraded Octavia. The Kodiaq will be launched early next year and the deliveries will begin in February 2017. While speaking about this achievement, Skoda CEO Bernhard Maier, said, “The current financial year shows that ŠKODA can sustainably tap into new customer segments with a modern model range on the international markets.” He added, “We will also continue our growth course in 2017. The new ŠKODA KODIAQ is going to play an important role in this; the model will expand our range in the growing SUV segment.”
Apart from the Superb, Fabia and Rapid have also received a positive response from the market. Deliveries of these models have also increased by 6.7 and 7.0 per cent, respectively, over the same period. In India, the Rapid facelift was launched earlier this month with a minimum price tag of Rs 8.35 lakh (ex-showroom, Maharashtra) and the top-end variant has been priced at Rs 12.79 lakh. As a part of its 'Strategy 2025', Skoda is also looking forward to working on electromobility, digitalizing the company, products and manufacturing, as well as new mobility services and connectivity. Also, the company intends to grow in two dimensions – firstly, in terms of increasing vehicle sales and secondly by expanding the growth course to include new business segments, such as digital mobility services.
