Crossover styling and Kwid borrowed platform and mechanicals should make the Redi-Go a good value for money offering

Datsun Redi-Go production version

Datsun’s third product and first on the CMF-A platform that underpins the Renault Kwid is the Redi-Go. The Redi-Go for the first time has been spied testing in production form and shows its crossover form clearly. Narrow, tall and high ground clearance, an upright rear windscreen and compact dimensions can be seen at first glance of this camouflaged hatchback.

It will be powered by the same 3-cylinder 800cc from the Kwid and will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. This engine develops 54PS of power and 72Nm of torque. The Redi-Go could also come with a 5-speed AMT in the future.

Datsun is the budget brand in the Renault-Nissan family and even if the Redi-Go shares its underpinnings with the Kwid, it should technically be positioned under it. Expect it to directly compete with the likes of the Maruti Alto 800 on the pricing front as well.

After the weak response to the Go and the Go Plus, the Redi-Go needs to strike a chord with the masses for Datsun to be considered a serious brand in India. That it shares much of its mechanicals with the highly popular Kwid is a good place to start.
