As the winters approach, Indian are all set to pull those sweaters out from the darkness of our closets and wind their car windows down to feel some winter air, aren't we? Though, for some, winding down a window won’t be enough, right? Well, Mercedes-Benz have got your back, as the German giant will be launching the all-new C300 and S500 cabriolet on November 9. The convertibles will let you explore the winter sky in a better way -- obviously, if your wallet agrees with the price of a Mercedes.
The C300 Cabriolet is, as the name suggests, based on the C-Class sedan, and is also identical to it dimensionally. The difference, however, is evidently in the soft-top, the long two doors, and the wide taillamp units. Underneath the bonnet of the C300 will, in all probability, be a 2.0-litre four-pot turbocharged motor transmitting power to the rear wheels via a nine-speed automatic gearbox. The power figure of the same is 245PS, which is sure to make it brisker than the standard C-Class. The car will be able to fold its drop top into the boot in around 20 seconds and will work at speeds up to 50kmph. It will be the cheapest Mercedes cabriolet available in the country and will sit under the E-Class convertible. The C300 will not have any direct competitors, however, the Audi A3 cabriolet can act as an indirect competitor.
The S500 cabriolet, which Mercedes claims to be one of the quietest convertibles on earth, is based on the S-Class sedan and is powered by a 4.7-litre biturbo V8, which produces a tyre-torturing torque of 700Nm. A nine-speed automatic gearbox sends the 422PS of power to the rear wheels, and will surely put up some spectacular sideways action when it's put through its paces.
Prices, since both the cars will be CBU (Completely Built Unit) imports, will fall upward of Rs 55 lakh for the C300, whereas for the S500 it could be around Rs 2 crore.
