SsangYong SIV-2

SsangYong showcased an all new concept at the 2016 Geneva Auto Show that showcases the evolution and future of the Korean auto manufacturer that is owned by Mahindra. The new SIV-2 concept is essentially a preview of the next generation SUV that will be made by the Korean manufacturer. This new SUV will be a mid-size SUV that will be placed above the SsangYong Tivoli in terms of pricing and will essentially look at replacing the likes of the Rexton.

The SUV-2 takes inspiration in terms of design from the SIV-1 but is an evolution of the latter. The new SUV gets a very aggressive front end that is dominated by a huge air intake in the lower half of the bumper along with a set of sharp headlights. The SsangYong badge is well placed in the centre with a slim grille flanking it on both sides. As with the SIV-I the SIV-2 also gets a floating roof architecture that looks quite sporty. In terms of inspiration from its peers, there has clearly been heavy influence from the likes of Volkswagen.

The SIV-2’s powerplant is a mild hybrid which means it has a 1.5-litre petrol direct injection engine with a turbocharger. The new SIV-2 in production form will of course have both petrol and diesel engines with equivalent hybrids. The new SIV-2 will possibly make it to production sometime next year and could replace the likes of the SsangYong Rexton.
