Apollo Tyres has been Manchester United’s title sponsor since a year now and is promoting young talent by an initiative called ‘Going the Distance’ with the club. To further this initiative, the Indian tyre major has created a community pitch made of recycled rubber in the football club’s old Trafford premises. The pitch is adjacent to the Club’s main stadium called the Theatre of Dreams and will be available for the local community to test their football skills.
Commenting on the initiative, Marco Paracciani, Chief Marketing Officer, Apollo Tyres Ltd said, “Sustainability is a key element of our philosophy and we have found an innovative way to use recycled rubber while at the same time making a long-term investment for the benefit of the local community. In our role as sponsor of Manchester United, we want to support the local community and the construction of our first ‘Go the Distance’ pitch is proof of our commitment.”
The company has used 10 tonnes of recycled rubber or an equivalent of 2,200 tyres to build the pitch. Youth development is a key to Manchester United’s football plans and the pitch should help towards this objective.
