Datsun’s entry-level model and one of the most affordable cars in India, the redi-GO, just got safer. The hatchback now comes standard with ABS and EBD, driver airbag, rear parking assist sensor, high speed warning and seatbelt reminder. Of these additions, ABS with EBD were already available since November 2018. Datsun has also made the variants lineup simpler, cutting the total down to just 5 variants.

The updated redi-GO is priced from Rs 2.79 lakh for the base D variant, going all the way till Rs 4.37 lakh (ex-showroom, India) for the range-topping S 1.0-litre with the AMT. The above said safety additions come as a result of the Indian government making these safety equipment mandatory by October 1.

Interestingly, the S variant with the 0.8-litre engine is now cheaper by Rs 6,000. Pricing of the S Variant and the S AMT with the 1.0-litre engine remains more or less unchanged.

The 1.0-litre 3-cylinder engine makes 68PS of max power and 91Nm of peak torque while delivering 22.5 kmpl. This engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The 0.8-litre 3-cylinder engine puts out 54PS and 72Nm with a claimed efficiency figure of 22.7 kmpl. The 5-speed AMT is coupled with the 1.0-litre engine and is only available with the top-spec S variant.

The Datsun redi-GO comes with a 2 year/unlimited kilometres warranty as standard and it can also be opted with an optional extended warranty for 2 or 3 years/unlimited kilometres, all adding upto 5 years/unlimited kilometres warranty coverage. Other equipment includes front two power windows, manual air-conditioning and a music system that supports radio, AUX and CD player. The redi-GO has a 222-litre boot and comes with a class-leading ground clearance of 185mm. Competition for the redi-GO comes in the form of the Renault Kwid 1.0L and Maruti Suzuki Alto K10.
