Gets a single-sided swingarm and top-of-the-line suspension, and brakes
Every once in a while comes a manufacturer that unveils a new prototype or concept that challenges the norms of how a motorcycle should be. Diem, an EV startup from Denmark, has unveiled its first-ever prototype electric motorcycle, the X-01, and boy, does it look quite enticing. Let’s have a closer look:
Straight Out Of A Video Game
The Diem X-01 electric prototype motorcycle will surely grab your attention - whether it’s the single-LED headlight, the absurd amount of aero and winglets or the single-sided swingarm. There’s no denying that the X-01 looks very attractive, combining futuristic design elements with a clean design language.

Apart from the gorgeous design, the prototype gets some serious equipment. It makes around 47PS, which allows it to slot right in the European A2 license category. It gets dual discs at the front with Brembo brake callipers, fully adjustable Showa fork, TFT console and a hub-mounted axial flux motor. But since this is still in its prototype form, Diem has a long way to go before the bike actually comes into production.
Big Dreams
That said, the startup says it is making its own battery and motor, which signifies that they’re not just adding off-the-shelf components and assembling a bike. That said, we’d have liked it if the startup had revealed more details, particularly about the battery. Sure, the motor is reasonably powerful, but what matters is how compact and energy-dense the battery pack is. It also matters how thermally efficient the pack is, not to mention a manageable weight. These aspects have a huge impact on how the electric motorcycle would behave in terms of handling, and how good the overall usability is as well.

Realistically speaking, if the startup wants to make a production version, it will be prudent for the brand to make production-friendly tweaks such as an aluminium swingarm, single front disc, and a slightly lower-spec suspension. Retaining the design doesn’t seem to be too challenging. Afterall, look at how futuristic the Ultraviolette F77, an actual production bike, is!
