To have better mileage and as a result of same less wear and tear, that means safe driving and safety follow these tips.1. On highways try to drive between a speed of 80 to 90 km/hour.2. If you are driving up the flyover, because of climbing up the slope, your speed will tend to reduce, do not increase acceleration to make up speed loss, rather let it drop, you will gain it back without pumping extra fuel, when you start driving down the slope of fly over. So you will get the best mileage.3. At above speed you will find that engine RPM are near 2500. That will give you the best mileage, Best engine life.4. Not exceeding 90km/hour, your vehicle is facing optimum wind drag, you are in better position to control vehicle in case of emergency.5. Use breaks to least. If you are driving on highway and find you are approaching a settlement or village, lift your feet of the race to break paddle, but do not press the break, just let your vehicle slow down to below 2000 rpm, and come down to a gear lower than before (5th to 4th gear) It will save you fuel and better control in case of emergency and you will be able to drive smoothly without loss of extra fuel.Remember continuous designed speed of Tata diesel engines is around 3000 rpm and Lug speed is approximately around 1250 to 1300 rpm. So if you find dence trafic ahead, keep foot of the race and shift to break without pressing break, keep on bringing down gears every time you find engine RPM below 2000.5. Above rule in 4 should be followed in cities too.6. Do not drive keeping left foot on clutch paddle. Left foot shall rest flat on footmat and only move to the clutch paddle if your engine is going to stop.6. No shame if your engine stops due to late in pressing clutch. You can immediately start again, with practice you will become expert Let car behind you Honk never bother By keeping foot of the clutch 1. Clutch will never fail.2. You will not make accident.7. In cities keep eye on break lights of 3 to 4 vehicles ahead of you, moment these are on, lift your feet of the race, lower gear or let the vehicle slow down of it's own.8. Similarly approaching trafic lights, you can make it from a distance whether you can get green, if not, lift foot of race, let vehicle slow down, change gear with speed, look for and manoeuvre your vehicle to locate in the row that you can move with least resistance and breaks. Most of the time I find leftmost lane is the fastest. In my 40 years of driving I have driven approx. 15 vehicles each crossing 2 lakh km but never replaced clutch. 9. In summer try park your vehicle in shade, keep windows half inch opened. Keep thermostat at 26.5 to 27 deg c. Will keep check on fuel.
