Tata Nexon EV is due for release this year. Others will follow in early 2020. The tax on petrol / diesel is 50 to 60 %, really exorbitant. The tax on gas ( CNG, LNG, LPG) is nominal & really makes economic sense to drive on gas.Hydrogen powered cars, buses etc have arrived overseas & once it makes it to India, it will be the most cost effective & zero pollution option as it only leaves water as end product. Now coming to EV, you can charge it in your home by using a compatible charger or do it in a EV charging station. However no human being in india will ever need to pay 50 to 60 % tax on electricity. Now 1 unit of electricity ( 1000 kwh) costs ₹7 to ₹8 & should get you 50 to 100 km, depending on the dynamics of the vehicle, like storage loss, regenerative braking, charging during running etc.

Dear Ravindra even though there a few EV lanches in near future, it would take few more years when efficient batteries would surface. You can go ahead with Maruti Suzuki Swift AMT for now. These vehicles can also be converted to electric cars. So do not waste your time contemplating for the right vehicle.

Knowing Indian market, it will be quite some time before a viable variant is available. So I would advice a conventional, economic alternative.
