Under the hood is a 2.2-litre that puts out a healthy 200PS and 440Nm of torque via an 8-speed automatic. The only missing piece in the puzzle is the price, which will be revealed once the Carnival is launched at the Auto Expo 2020. We expect it to be around the Rs 30-lakh mark.

Kia Carnival Highlights

Carnival Specifications

The Carnival is powered by a 2.2-litre, BS6 compliant, turbo diesel. It makes 200PS and 440Nm and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Power is sent to the front wheels and this is the sole drivetrain for the Carnival. Kia is claiming an ARAI certified 13.9kmpl

Carnival Variants

The Carnival is available in three variants Premium, Prestige and Limousine. The Premium is available in 7 and 8 seater configurations. The Prestige is available with either 8 or 9 seats adn the Limousine is availavble only with the 7 VIP seat option.

Carnival Exterior and Interior

The Carnival looks about as attractive as a large van could look. The design is simple and understated with a large signature tiger nose grill flanked by large LED headlamps and ice cube fog lights. On the sides the accent lines are straight and the shoulder line steps up just a little past the c-pillar to break up the monotony. There's also shiny chrome 18-inch alloys in the Limousine variant that adds a bit of bling to the profile. At the rear the design is again simple with two large taillamps with a chrome accent running across.

In short they are premium. Premium SUV like premium. That means you get soft touch materials on the dash, leather wrapped steering wheels and gear knob and while the design and layout of the dash is fairly conventional, there's no dearth of tech in this cabin. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are present as is Kia's UVO connected tech which also features smartphone and smartwatch compatibility. There's also two sunroofs, wireless charging, a 220V AC charge socket, powered sliding doors and tailgate and three zones of climate control. In terms of seating configurations there's lots of flexibility with 7, 7 VIP, 8 and 9 seat options to choose from. The top of the range Limousine variant comes standard with the 7 VIP seat option only.

Editor's View of Kia Carnival

  • Upside

Big and imposing, spacious and comfortable, feature-loaded and well built - the Carnival has a lot going for it. However, there are some things that it really aces. Comfort levels, both in terms of ride quality and space, is really good across all three rows of seats (in the 7 VIP, 7 and 8 seat variants).

  • Downside

It may be a bit too big for some parking lots. Also, if you opt for the 9 seat option, you'll have to make a compromise between luggage space or passenger comfort.

  • Our Verdict

If you love to travel with your extended family on long road trips, then the Carnival will ensure that you can seat everyone in absolute comfort. There's more than enough cool features to ensure that the journey is as fun as the destination too.

2020 Kia Carnival Limousine: First Drive Review

Kia’s second offering is both a completely new breed of four-wheeled transport for us and also Kia’s Indian flagship for the foreseeable future. Naturally, we have a lot of questions: is it comfortable? Is it versatile? More importantly, how easy would it be living with something this large?
