May 10, 2017: The Isuzu MU-X is due to be launched today and will be looking to build on the success of the D-Max V-Cross pick up. The MU-X is based on the same platform as the V-Cross and has a lot in common with the pickup. That said, the SUV will be aimed at the premium end of the market and will be positioned as a luxury offering compared to the utilitarian D-Max.
The MU-X is a 7-seater SUV, that's unapologetically large. To put things into perspective, the length is a full 100mm longer than the Toyota Fortuner. Just like the V-Cross, the MU-X is sure to grab quite a few eyeballs, more so, considering its exterior detailing that include a large chrome grille, dual-barrel projector headlamps and large 17-inch alloy wheels.
The cabin is identical to that of the V-Cross but is a tad more upmarket. The interior gets the dual-tone treatment and wooden inserts help uplift the ambience. The top-spec MU-X is expected to get goodies such as leather seats, automatic climate control, touch-screen infotainment system and electrically adjustable driver's seat. On the safety front, Isuzu will offer dual airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist as standard.
Unlike the V-Cross that features a 2.5-litre diesel engine, the MU-X is likely to get a bigger 3.0-litre engine under its hood. It produces 177PS and 380Nm (41PS and 60Nm more than the pickup) and will be offered with a 5-speed automatic transmission.
The MU-X replaces the MU-7 and hopes to build on the success of the V-Cross
The MU-X will take over the reins from the MU-7 that failed to make a mark in the segment
The spacious and capable MU-X will offer an alternative in the full-size SUV space with a competitive price tag
