BMW launched the 6-Series GT at the Auto Expo 2018 with a rather attractive price tag of Rs 58.9 lakh for the 630i Sport Line (ex-showroom India). For the time being, BMW is offering the 6GT with just a petrol motor. However, it could introduce a diesel powertrain later this year. The petrol engine on offer is the 2-litre, in-line four-cylinder motor producing 258PS of power and 400Nm of torque. Mated to this is an 8-speed automatic transmission that gives the 6GT a 0-100kmph time of 6.3 seconds.
While the 5GT was rather forgettable, the 6GT looks like a proper grand tourer. And, as the name suggest, it slots in between the 5- and 7-Series. It will rival the likes of the Audi A5 in the Indian market.
The all new BMW 6 Series Gran Coupe is a powerful concoction that results from the perfect blend of sports car dynamics with the comforts of a sedan all done up in the quintessential elan that only BMW can offer
Priced in the range of Rs 58.90 lakh - 1.22 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi), the BMW 6 Series comes across as an aesthetically designed solid performer. On the outside, the 6 Series comes with adaptive LED headlights, kidney grill, chunky alloy wheels, and coupe-like profile, all of which come together to deliver a very eye-catchy experience. Inside the cabin, the features include a panoramic sunroof, leather upholstery, driver passenger and side airbags, electronic stability program, Anti-Lock Braking System, adaptive air suspension, connectivity and driver assistance system. Under the Hood, the 6 Series comes powered by a 2.0-liter petrol motor (255 BHP, 400 Nm) and 3.0-liter diesel engine (313BHP, 630Nm), both Motors coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission. In the Indian market, the BMW 6 Series read up against the likes of Volvo S90, Mercedes Benz E class, Audi S5 along with its own 3 series and 5 series cousins.
Design, Sports car capability and sedan practicality, Snob value
This is the car to go for if you want a luxury sedan with sports car-like performance
Well, we certainly hope so since it looks bonkers and begs to be thrashed!
The 6 GT replaces the rather forgettable 5 GT and, as you might've guessed, it slots right in between the 5- and 7-Series.
It replaces the 5GT in BMW's portfolio, and (thankfully) doesn't look like a tired platypus
