The Mahindra XUV 3XO, with a features list that rivals the shopping lists of Arabian Sheikhs, is turning up the heat in the extremely popular subcompact SUV segment. Understandably, the usual segment leader, the Tata Nexon, is keen to respond with updates of its own. Recently, it was introduced with new lower-end variants and now, the Nexon was snapped sporting a panoramic sunroof at what looks like Tata’s factory floor.
This development raises speculation that Tata might be introducing its popular offering with this much beloved feature down the road. That said, plonking in a panoramic sunroof involves a handful of re-engineering and structural changes as well. So, it is possible that this feature was already part of the product development plan for the Nexon, and could simply be moved up the timeline for an earlier introduction than originally intended.
Obviously, if introduced, expect the panoramic sunroof to be limited to the Nexon’s higher-end variants. The smaller single-pane unit is likely to be retained in lower-end variants, just like the 3XO, giving buyers choice across price points. But yes, with the introduction of the larger sunroof, the Nexon will be one of the most well-rounded SUVs in its segment.
