Out Of Indian Chieftain Limited And Chieftain Elite, It Is The Chieftain Limited We Expect To Come To India

It is an open secret that Americans love all things XXXL. When it comes to pickup trucks or cruisers, 'Bigger is better' has always been their mantra for success. Baggers are one such type of customised excess when it comes to motorcycling. A Bagger is, more often than not, a full-size cruiser, decked up with a huge front fairing, a 19-inch front wheel and two large, hard saddle bags. Harleys have been the de facto choice of custom bike builders as a base bike for a full-sized custom bagger. Harley-Davidson also has the CVO Street Glide Bagger as part of its 2017 US lineup.

Catching up on this trend is Indian Motorcycle, with its two new motorcycles - the Chieftain Limited and the Chieftain Elite. Based on the Indian Chieftain chassis and running gear, the two bikes sport a 19-inch front wheel with new 10-spoke machined alloys. The front fender is now slimmer to show off the front wheel.

The four-piston callipers on the twin 300mm front brakes have the Indian script logo inscribed on them. The bikes come with Ride Command infotainment system with a seven-inch screen, keyless ignition, remote locking saddlebags, chrome front highway bars and electrically adjustable windshields. Both bikes are powered by the Chieftain's Thunder Stroke 111 air-cooled 1811cc, V-twin powerplant that puts out 161Nm of torque.

While the Chieftain Limited will be the production version, the Chieftain Elite will be the more exotic model with production limited to 350 units. The Chieftain Elite will get a custom Fireglow Red Candy paint job with pinstriping and marble accents that are guaranteed to give each bike a unique look. It would take a specialised team around 25 hours to hand paint the bike at Indian Motorcycle's custom paint facility located in Spearfish, South Dakota.

Other exotic touches include a red custom cam cover, Pathfinder LED headlamp and driving lamps, a different flare windshield, billet-machined rider and passenger floorboards and a 200-watt surround sound audio system.

While it is highly unlikely for the Chieftain Elite to be launched in India, we expect Indian Motorcycle to launch the Chieftain Limited here in the coming months. When launched here, it is expected to be the range-topper in the Indian Motorcycle lineup.
