Hyundai has launched its new sedan christened as the Hyundai Aslan in South Korea. Named after the Lion lord from the book series of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’, the car tucks between the between the Hyundai Grandeur and Hyundai Genesis.
The new Hyundai Aslan was first showcased under the name Hyundai AG at the Busan Motor Show earlier this year. This new sedan follows the carmaker’s Fluidic Sculpture V2.0 design philosophy and rides on 18-inch alloy wheels. The Aslan receives a hexagonal grille with vertical chrome slats and projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights. The South Korean carmaker has also used double glasses on the windshield and the side windows to prevent unwanted outside noise from seeping in.
The interior derives inspiration from the Hyundai Genesis sedan and receives leather seats, wooden trim on the dashboard and the door panels and electronic systems such as the adaptive smart cruise control, the forward collision warning system, the lane departure warning system and the blind-spot detection system. The standard equipment also includes nine airbags, an adaptive suspension, ABS with EBD, ESP, a tyre pressure monitoring system and an electronic climate control system.
Power is provided by two V6 petrol engines – a 3.0-litre unit that churns out 270PS of power and 310Nm of torque and a 3.3-litre powerplant delivering 294PS of power and 346Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
The Hyundai Aslan is launched in South Korea at a price tag of Rs 22.50 lakh. Hyundai aims to sell 6,000 units of the sedan in its home market this year and 22,000 units next year. The South Korean carmaker hasn’t confirmed any plans to launch this model in India as of now.
