Ford pilots share-car project in India

Ford, has announced at the ongoing Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, its Smart Mobility plan. This mobility plan includes the American carmaker’s unique pilot project called ‘Share-Car’ that will first kickstart in Bengaluru to tackle growing transportation challenges.

Through this project small groups including co-workers, apartment dwellers and families will be allowed to share a vehicle among multiple drivers. This would allow people to get the benefit of owning a car and reaping its benefits without actually owning one. Researchers, in collaboration with Zoomcar - a self-drive car rental service provider, intend to chalk out a plan for vehicle scheduling and managing ownership.

This project is a part of the 25 global mobility experiments, which together make up the Ford Smart Mobility plan. Out of these 25 projects, eight would be carried out in North America, nine in Europe and Africa, seven in Asia, and one in South America. Each experiment is designed to anticipate what customers will want and need in tomorrow’s transportation ecosystem.

The experiments will address four global megatrends - explosive population growth, an expanding middle class, air quality and public health concerns and changing customer attitudes and priorities.
