2015 has been a busy year for Ducati, as it launched three new offerings. The new additions include the Ducati Scrambler, Ducati 1299 Panigale and the Ducati Multistrada 1200. Now it has sent out an invite to international publications to test ride its new road bike at a race track. Ducati hasn’t divulged details about the new motorcycle as it wants to keep an air of secrecy around it.
Given its current portfolio it is being rumoured that the new motorcycle is most likely the next generation Streetfighter. The Ducati Streetfighter is among the rare products from the Italian bikemaker that hasn’t succeeded as opposed to its expectations. The Streetfighter was offered in two variants – 848 and 1098. The Ducati Streetfighter 1098 was discontinued in 2013 owing to poor sales as consumers preferred the Monster over it. Currently only the Ducati Streetfighter 848 is available and we must point it isn’t available in the Indian market. It is expected that Ducati will plonk the new Streetfighter with the 1299’s powerplant as demand for super-naked motorcycles has increased in the recent past.
New entrants in this segment include the Suzuki GSX-S1000 and BMW S1000R. Expect the new Ducati Streetfighter 1299 to get a cosmetic makeover and feature the monocoque chassis instead of the traditional trellis frame. It will be loaded with electronic goodies like traction, control, ABS etc. The Ducati 1299 Streetfighter can be officially launched at the 2015 INTERMOT motorcycle show in Germany given the fact that it is currently being owned by Audi.
