Unlike other established car manufacturers in India, Toyota is the only one that earns bread and butter from its high end mass produced cars in India. Superhit recipes like the Fortuner and the Innova have ruled in their respective segments ever since they hit the Indian market. On the other hand, the Etios and the Etios Liva never really caught up with the industry pace in their segment.
Recently, Toyota unveiled the facelifted versions of the Etios and Etios Liva in Brazil. These cars are expected to hit the Indian market during the festive season this year. Although most of the design looks quite similar to the current offerings, there are subtle differences in the makeover. On the front, there is a new radiator grille while the bumper gets a dual-tone treatment along with a wider lower air dam and a new fog-lamp housing. On the rear, there is a new bumper in place, with the style change being apparent near the niche for the number plate. New15-inch alloy wheels and a set of sporty side skirts complete the exterior makeover.
The Brazilian offerings have an all-black interior trim with a touchscreen infotainment system in place. Chances of these making to the Indian market are slim. The interior trim features in India are set to be the same as the current offerings.
The engine family is expected to remain the same for both the siblings. In the Liva hatchback one can choose a 1.2-litre petrol produces 80PS of power and 104Nm of torque, or the 1.4-litre diesel motor churns out 68PS of power with 170Nm of maximum torque. The sedan Etios get a more powerful 1.5-litre petrol motor that makes 90PS of power and 132Nm of torque. The diesel motor figures are the same as in the Liva.
Toyota dealerships across the country are offering discounts on the outgoing versions of the budget-friendly cars. In Delhi, discounts worth Rs 12,500 on the Etios and Rs 10,000 on the Liva is in place. However, in Mumbai, a discount of up to Rs 15,000 can be availed on both the cars. These discounts come in at a good time for the Japanese car manufacturer as market leaders like Suzuki and Hyundai have recently hiked prices for their offerings. Bookings for the facelifted versions have not begun yet.
