The standard Bronco is already so so good! With the Bronco Raptor, Ford decided to spice things a notch further

The Bronco is already too much wishing from us to a manufacturer, who promised that they will be bringing in some sweet super imports. And while my mind is still fresh on the Bronco’s pics that were showcased at the unveilings, Ford decided to spice things up with this one. Ladies and Gentlemen, this is the Bronco Raptor, or what I would like to call, the perfect marriage.

Let me explain why. The Ford Bronco is already a desirable SUV to begin with. It had the looks, off-road capability, and the charm that any big off roader like a Land Rover Defender or Jeep Wrangler has. With the Bronco Raptor, Ford has just improvised on everything to ensure it’s the perfect bird of prey, or in other words, the Raptor!

The design of the Bronco Raptor looks like it’s ready to take on an apocalypse. It’s four-inches wider than your standard four-door Bronco, which not only helps in its stance, but gives better cornering performance. Heavy-duty bash and skid plates not only add to the look, but it’s capable of taking quite a beating, keeping all the vital components protected.

Then there's the grille, which, in typical Raptor fashion, now gets ‘FORD’ lettering instead of ‘BRONCO.’ The headlamps are similar to the standard, but the DRLs are amber, and the Raptor fan will notice the three position lamps on top of the Ford lettering. Adding beef to the design is the hood, which gets a hood scoop for added muscle.

Inside, the Bronco Raptor’s cabin layout and design is similar to the standard SUV. A loud Raptor badging has been embossed on the passenger side to remind you what you have been driving. Plenty of orange highlights are also there to say “hey, I’m cool!” And you know what else is cool? Removable doors and roof panels, both of which have been carried from the standard SUV.

As standard, the SUV rolls on 37-inch all-terrain tyres with super chunky sidewalls for better protection while off-roading. Ford has also teamed up with Fox to upgrade its suspension system with 13- and 14-inches of travel in the front and rear respectively. Also, the front and rear axles have further been beefed up to ensure they can take better beating.

The end result is an SUV that sits wider and taller than the standard SUV. Ground clearance, too, has seen an increase from 210mm to 333mm.

But to ensure all of this works well while offroading, the Bronco Raptor needs to have a powerful engine, and Ford has got it covered there as well. A 3-litre six-cylinder EcoBoost engine, paired with an 10-speed automatic transmission, sits underneath the hood, and is targeted to develop over 400PS. There will also be a dual exhaust system with active-valve technology for aural pleasure.

The four-wheel drive system has been upgraded to withstand the additional performance (and thrashing) on tap. Also, the transfer case features a 3.06 4x4 LO ratio for up to 67.7:1 crawl ratio. Or in simple words, the Bronco Raptor will have some serious crawling capabilities. G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain) off-road modes will naturally be available, playing around with the vehicle’s drivetrain for better driveability. Under this, there will be a new Baja mode to ensure the engine has all the power from lower down in the rev range for max attack.

So the Raptor improvises on all the things the standard Bronco is already so good at. Didn’t I say that this was a perfect marriage.
