Diesel is a performer whereas petrol is basic and especially good for city drive. Torque and power in petrol is less. Diesel cars cost at least 1 lakhs rs more than petrol cars plus servicing is costly (except toyota cars which treats petrol and diesel cars as same when it comes to servicing). Actual benefit of diesel car is realized after 5 years typically when one completes 75000 kms n more because there on one starts making profit because mileage is more and fuel cost is comparatively lower and by that that extra 1 lakhs rs is covered because fuel you spend covers rs 1 lakhs (after 75k kms). Petrol car insurance is at lower side as well (say 1.5k to 2k per annum lower at least for first 5 years i.e. almost 8k to 10k saving on insurance. So if you target of total kms in first 7 to 8 years is not more that 1 lakhs then go for petrol else think of a diesel car.

Petrol is better for a hatchback car as the diesel might give trouble in the winters

  • Best Car

After seven years of driving a Toyota Etios Liva and covering around 57,000 kilometers, I've had to replace both shock absorbers, the steering wheel joint, and the front wheel bearing. In contrast, my previous ownership of a Maruti Alto was more reliable when it came to these parts. I've also encountered another owner with similar complaints about the Etios Liva. Based on my personal experience, I would caution against buying a Toyota Liva and suggest considering other brands, which could potentially save you a significant amount on costly replacement parts.
