The Velar is Land Rover’s way of giving you an emotional purchase. It’s an SUV that you can show off about and turn up in at any event knowing that it’s going to turn heads. If anything, this is a step in a more sensible direction for Range Rover (poetic, since this is the namesake of what was the original Range Rover). Let’s face it, the rest of the range is very fancy too but put so much focus into their off-road cred, which is tested over some grass fields, gravel or some slush at most in the real world. The head still says, get one of the German or Swedish rivals or even the Range Rover Sport if you’re getting one of the Velar’s higher variants. The Sport’s bigger, more practical and isn’t starved for equipment either. But unlike it, the Velar is a guilty pleasure for the heart. If you buy your cars purely for logical reasons, there’s no argument to make you consider buying one. But the day that a Velar drives up next to you in your more sensible luxurious alternative, it’s sure to make you glance and wonder. On the other hand, If we talk about BMW X5, it is larger and lighter than its predecessor, the X5 is underpinned by the latest CLAR architecture which also underpins other BMW cars like the 5-Series and 7-Series. Its air suspensions provide great ride quaity. Also it is more refined and it equipments inside are almost of the level of 7-series. It also has crucial ingredients in the form of a powerful engine, new interiors and the most important bit, aggressive pricing. If we talk about Mercedes-Benz GLE, it packs the most understated design of the three SUVs here. On the outside, you get multibeam LED headlamps with a range up to 150 metres. It gets an illuminated, aluminium-finish running board on the side, giving it a tough look and making it easier for you to get into the SUV. But, the main attraction is the large 20-inch wheels, which though impressive, are second to the BMW. The cabin is dressed in man-made leather but the comfort seats are wrapped in leather for the Hip Hop Edition. The ambient lighting system gives you a choice of 64 colours with attractive colour schemes to flow inside the cabin. It is a big leap in its segment. The rear seat comfort is top in the class here, and power slider recliner function for the rear seat is a game-changer for this class. It offers good comfort at the front as well, with a lot of luxury and long modern equipment list. It is a little bit bouncy, due to its soft suspensions. Clearly, it’s the Mercedes that offers the most in terms of cabin comfort and features, along with a major price jump. The BMW offers more to the driver with gesture controls and a cockpit-like cabin. You may compare all these cars according to their variants too. Do take a test drive before the final call.
