  • Will get cosmetic exterior updates in line with the current-gen Kia’s design language.

  • Redesigned looks will include all new LED headlights and taillights.

  • The facelifted Carens is likely to get an EV powertrain along with its ICE counterparts.
  • Carens EV confirmed to launch in 2025.

The recent spy shots of the Kia Carens facelift have emerged from the brand’s home country, South Korea. The Carens, a popular family MPV which debuted in February 2022, is likely to get a facelift next year as it turns three years with the brand already confirming upon an EV version of it reaching our shores in 2025.

While the heavy camouflage makes it a bit challenging to notice details, the spy shots  indicate significant changes made to the front and rear of the Carens facelift. Notably, the new C-shaped LED tail lights resemble those found on the updated Seltos and Sonet. Although the headlight design remains concealed, it's likely to align with the Seltos facelift. We can expect  updates to the front and rear bumpers, redesigned alloy wheels, and various claddings across the vehicle.

Interior alterations are less visible from the spy shots, but continuity with the current model's layout is anticipated, with options for six- or seven-seat configurations. Features will encompass all the niceties including a 10.25-inch infotainment screen, digital driver’s display, 360 degree camera, air-purifier, ventilated front seats, sunroof and ambient lighting.

On the safety front, it is anticipated to get 6 airbags as standard and even ADAS Level 2 features like adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring and lane-keep assist, considering Kia is already equipping the existing models with it.

The new Carens is expected to keep its current engine options: a 115 PS 1.5-litre NA petrol, a 160 PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, and a 116 PS 1.5-litre diesel engine. Furthermore, various transmission options will also be available, depending on the engine type.

In addition to the traditional engine options, an all-electric version of the Carens is also in the works and is expected to launch in India by late 2025. Details on its powertrain are still scarce, but it's likely to share similarities with the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV and Seltos EV, with an expected real world range of around 400 km.

Upon its arrival, the facelifted Carens will continue to rival other MPVs in the market like the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota Rumion, and an MPV alternative to 7-seater SUVs like the Hyundai Alcazar and Mahindra XUV 700. With the Carens EV also making its way, it will rival other EVs like the BYD e6. Expect the Carens EV to be priced around Rs 20 lakh while the ICE version will command a premium over the current model, which is priced from Rs 10.52 lakh (ex-showroom).
