Volkswagen India has launched yet another special edition of the Taigun compact SUV and Virtus, known as the Sound Edition. It is based on the Topline variants of both cars and joins the carmaker’s range of special editions, which includes the GT Edge collection. Let's dive into the details.

Exterior

On the outside, you get to see ‘Sound’ badging decals on the B- and C-pillars of both the Taigun and Virtus. Additionally, the Taigun Sound Edition gets a contrasting white roof and ORVM caps as an option.

There are no other changes in the exterior and you can have this special edition with four colour options, namely Carbon Steel Grey, Lava Blue, Rising Blue, and Wild Cherry Red.

Inside, the main update for the Sound Edition, as its name suggests, is the presence of a subwoofer and an amplifier from the GT Plus trim. The tweeters also have a ‘Sound’ badging to denote that this is the special edition model. Other features include a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple Carplay/Android Auto, a 8-inch digital driver’s display, powered front seats with ventilation, a sunroof, and keyless entry with push button start/stop. 

Its safety features include ABS with EBD, six airbags, electronic stability control, reverse parking camera with sensors and tyre pressure monitoring system.

Powertrain

Volkswagen Virtus Engine

Underneath the hood, the Sound Edition of both Taigun and Virtus are powered by the 1-litre turbo petrol engine which puts out 115PS of power and 178Nm of torque. The engine is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. You also get to pick from a more powerful 150PS 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine for both the cars.

Prices for the Taigun Sound Edition starts from Rs 16.33 lakh and that of the Virtus Sound Edition starts from Rs 15.52 lakh (ex-showroom). The Taigun rivals the likes of the  Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Honda Elevate, MG Astor, and Citroen C3 Aircross. The Virtus, on the other hand, competes with the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Skoda Slavia and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.
