Mahindra Xylo Launched!

Mahindra Xylo Launched!

Mahindra has finally taken the wraps of the much awaited Xylo MPV. The Indian market has been waiting with baited breath for the jeep-maker to unleash their latest beast and from the looks of it; Mahindra seems to have taken the bull by its horns.

Mahindra's synergy with the Indian market is literally an inbuilt notion, and time and time again this jeep manufacturer has proved that they have indeed understood the pulse of the customer. The Xylo is an amalgamation of this understanding and though its looks might not win it any beauty contest, it is built to a purpose and for a market that has already accepted the Toyota Innova.

Needless to say, the Innova has done all the hard work in breaking new ground and creating a new-look statement in the Indian MPV segment, and the Xylo is now set to capitalize on this. The playground is set and the competition is stepping up. The comparisons between the two have already been the talk of town, for the Xylo is the first true competitor to the Innova. Mahindra has put in a lot of effort to get everything right with the Xylo which includes learning from their past experiences, especially with the Scorpio project.

Packed with an all new 2.5 litre engine that generates oodles of power and football field sized interiors, the Xylo is sure to find a solid fan following. This vehicle is defining in more ways than one for not only does it come as a great value for money proposition, it also illustrates the way forward for Mahindra and how!

we all know that mahindra is one of the best jeep makers from producing classical jeep to modern models with a consistent value and quality of exterior and interior parts(jeep wheels, engine, doors, grille, seats etc). your mahindra xylo looks like a hybrid of of toyota innova and scorpio. i want to find out how smooth is the transmission of this mahindra xylo. its front grille was really attractive and unique. | Reply

I have changed 6 cars in my life and Mahindra Xylo is the latest in my vehicles. I've even driven Mahindra Bolero which is good enough. But Xylo is superior in terms of Drive quality, suspension and luxury. Mahindra cars always sell well. Moreover it is common logic that a good vehicle will always sell more. xylo has definitely overtaken Innova sales. Last I heard was that 15000 bookings have already been registered for xylo. good number in 4 months. Looks like Toyota Innova is "XYLOED" he he he he .... Nonetheless good for Indian car manufacturer. | Reply

Xylo is a good vehicle. I have changed 6 cars in my life which includes Mahindra Bolero from the Mahindra clan. Bolero is nice but cannot beat Xylo in terms of Drive comfort, suspension and luxury. mahindra vehicles sell goo and it is simple logic that a good vehicle always sells more. Xylo has definitely affected Toyota innova Sales. I've heard that 15000 units have already been booked for Xylo since its launch. Good sale in 4 months for an MPV. Innova has got "XYLOED" big time ... he he he he. Nonetheless, its good for Indian Automobile market. | Reply

It seems Mahindra sold 1778 Xylo's in the first two weeks itself. Read it on their website http://www.mahindraxylo.co.in/buzz_news.asp .... Was surprised at first that so many Xylo's are selling successfully but then again happy that an Indian manufacturer's product is doing good in competition to companies like Toyota. | Reply

Mahendra is good in SUV, but the Xylo is not so impressive and priced very very high. I think they have reduce their price for this design. I appreciate their enthusiasim in innovation and I proud to own a Indian Made Car, but we can still design better at very very compettive price, after all Indians are one of the leading car designers in the world. | Reply

i read some readers` comments. one toyota fan`s also. but keep this in mind that most of high prised cars/suvs are impoted and can attract up to 110% duties on it, like honda crv, ford endevour etc like But many indian companies take different route to reduce price like they design in-house, they develop the concept, plant equipments etc, and this will attract less duties on it But this dosent mean that chepear indian cars/suvs are not of good quality.if you remember TATA had saved almost 1000crores by devloping the car on shared basis and purchasing 2nd hand plant. this Xylo is really promising see the facilities insixe Xylo . rest u can check within 6 months from the sales figure. As it is most of the companies sell their cas in India at much more price than in neighbouring contries. please check yourself. | Reply

I have seen this car on the road and actually it really appeals you. It is a very very sensibly designed car for indian need. There is a lot of difference when and indian designs a indian car and a straight import. Mahindra people have given a lot of though about the INDIAN user and the way he travels. I think instead of comparing and saying that it is not as good as an Innova. Study the price of the vehicle and find what kind of vehicle can you get at that price and then compare how much better Xylo really is. The car has not been positioned as an MUV or an SUV. It is positioned as a Sedan Killer. When you compare it with the sedan's and the price at which they are available , suddenly xylo would seem like an obvious choice | Reply

Mahendra as to do more home work on exteriors either towards the front and sides. The back view is excellent and gives a class of looking. If we (indian companies) have to compete with other MNC's the preperation should be such that no one points at it for example Scorpio. Hope to see a greater version of xylo. bye | Reply

XYLO can be said as MPV taking into account - Price, Comfort, not so attaractive looks and its all round performance. The XYLO would have been bit attaractive if the M&M design team would have opted for a better front looks rather than opting and designing "OLD CONCEPT CHINESE design - Dragon shaped front Grille". M&M still can go in for cosmetic changes by consulting DC Chabaria. Hope they will act soon. | Reply

if you dont have that extra 1 lac for the Innova yes go for the xylo but dont even compare it to the Innova in any department.. Toyota is miles ahead.. if you want to be patriotic and dont have the money go for it...its better than the sumo rhino that's all i can say no where near the Innova | Reply

'Oh God No!', that was my first response when I saw this monstrosity on wheels. All said and done let's look at this odditiy for what it's worth. Firstly, for all all readers.. this is an MUV, not an SUV. Comparisons against a Scorpio or a Safari are not in order. Competing turf would be more along the lines of the Tavera and the Innova. Interiors are spruced up with plenty of nice touches. However, too plasticky and everything looks built to a price. As for the colour schemes, I think I've grown too old too appreciate such atrocious misadventures. Now comes the drive. Well this is actually a surprise. Rides well, handles better than a Scorpio (which handles like a 1 mast sail in a hurricane, by the way). Come to think of it, not bad for a vehicle with this price tag. M&M could have done a better job with the gear ratios. The power steering is not bad either. Braking is stiff and ancient. No points for that. Overall a decent vehicle as far as ride and handling is concerned. However, quality of interiors need improvement, but then can't really complain much. They need to fit into the price somewhere. Was reading some of the extreme reviews out here, defninitely not an international product. Just about passable. What outrages me most is why can't M&M get some better designers. If you build a car to a price, it does not necessarily need to look built to a price. Just some imaginative designing and you can get something which catches everyone's fancy. M&M have consistently outdone themselves on the design department, they just seem too bored to care much about it. Wonder who the target market is for this vehicle. I would tag it to more to rural and taxi use where practicality is more important than style or finesse. Utilitarian benefits apart, I agree that no self respecting individual would be caught alive in this Medusa. Now that I mention it, maybe they should have named it Medusa in the first place. At least the expectation setting would be in place. | Reply

Welcome to the new luxury Taxi ....... Mahindra made a mistake by not giving attention to the exteriors .... The Xylo looks very angry from the front and overall just a 8 seater scorpio .... Customers have a very different picture of SUV/MUV looks wise .... Though full marks for the interiors ..... But the current package will only have rural takers or Taxi and Rent-a-car takers or corporates which ferry its people to and fro .... | Reply

People criticizing the Xylo's looks are just jumpin on the bandwagon of people who initially had bad reviews about the looks. You got to see Xylo in flesh to know what it looks like.... It has a great road presence. Moreover, look at its drive quality, truely international. The other features are added advantage. | Reply

Its definately not a head turner but look at the Value For Money it offers. M & M claims that it has got rid of all the problems that are existing in Scorpio. Its got the same power as Scorpio. It has loads of space and can accomodate 7-9 people depending on variant you choose. Overall it looks a terrific package for Indian public and I think we are going to see a lot of these in coming months. Best luck | Reply

Mahindra and Mahindra has come out with Xylo to compete the Toyota Innova which is very costly for current situation. I have not test driven both vehicles so far but I feel that looks is not very important if you get good CRDE engine, inside passenger and driver comforts lower maintainance costs and mileage. Changing a tire is a real task for Innova, I do not know about Xylo. The Xylo name itself is not very attractive; M&M could have innovated a better name in place of Xylo say Crusador, Avenger etc | Reply

The exterior fits in with the title of a MPV. since it is targetting the family sector am sure it has come at the right time . all this bull shit about the exterior U MORONS go ahead and buy the other SUV's if you can afford one and then cry on the money pissed down the drain. | Reply

Hey guys! I am very happy ... Got chance to test drive Xylo.... it is amazing. handling is very smooth. Because it is so huge, it has excellent grip on the road. I loved the smell of the fresh seat leather. They got trays like planes in the back of the seats, that was surprising, never seen that before. Can easily cruise at 130/135 kmph. | Reply

As a person who doesn't care much about a cars looks but rather the utility and performance of a vehicle, I would give full marks to Xylo. We should appreciate Mahindra for making this much cheaper MPV. Besides, even in the pics Xylo looks taller and stronger than Innova. | Reply

Jehan AD said, "To the disbelievers the only good thing is that they do not know or want to know how good the Xylo is! I am sure with the pasage of few days they would be eating their words. Xylo on the other hand has a much more powerful road presence. | Reply

My first impreesion about XYLO was not at all positive. But when I test drove the vechile, my rspect for the vechile had no bounds. I was magnetized with the engine, suspension, power steering, interiors, all dimentional A/C effect, the Snacks Tray, the Understorage Bin, and the list continues........ I am sure it has put a lot of efforts and hard work for M&M to craft this master piece. What is more suprising is the price Tag @ which M&M is offering this Beauty. I would suggest al lthe critics of this MPV, to first TEST Drive it, and your perception will not take a minute to change - Trust Me. OVERALL an Excellent Vechile made by Excellent Manufacturer. PROUD TO BE Indian, as Indians are also one of the best Car Makers. | Reply

The Xylo's design may not be revolutionary but if you want a vehicle with the attitude of an SUV, the prestige of an executive sedan and the space of a MPV, it doesn't get better than this...some very thoughtful features in it too. Those who have sat in the new city will vouch that the touch and feel of the Xylo's knobs/switches is far superior... | Reply

Do you marry a girl for looks, without considering other virtues? Looks can't be seen in isolation. Most adverse comments seem to have come from myopic eyes. Please understand the whole package, and appreciate the phase thru which world economy is passing. Innova like looks helps encash on acceptability & speedy purchase decision, by pushing the Features, instead of expensive campaign to create acceptance on looks first (like Maruti Van Omni at launch fought ‘breadbox’ feel) and thereby delayed purchase decision. It should make sound economic sense, in tune with time. I have been with this Industry for innovations, tracking transition across India (and Europe, US) for about a decade and would say without a blink - "It is a very practical and thoughtful, feature rich product." More importantly, the price band. Kudos to the Design Team. Mktg. - Pls see if nos. justify - to pull the entry tag under Six Lac. | Reply

The Xylo has 4 versions, there seems to be a wide price gap between the E4 & E8, just not right for for the added systems & features, besides they don't have ABS & Air Bags on the high end versions. Drove the Xylo today and must share first impressions about looks. It is OK, much better in the real metal then photos make it look. And the majority of you are going for the looks when it is the substance which the vehicle is solid in. The web has made many an armchair critic and when impressions like the one on looks come in droves without many even having seen or checked the vehicle then it is unfortunate. People do not rubbish yourself by only commenting on the Xylo's externals, it is what is inside it and under its skin which will make you fall in love. I am going to buy one in the coming month for sure. | Reply

For the last 6 months I wanted to buy a car moreover a sedan in a range of say 5 to 6 lacs. But confused between Indigo and desire. But now I think why not to but this Xylo, I will just have to pay 24k more than 6 lac decided. Its good looking also, specially the variety of colours it has come with. But I love most the mint green colour its really sexy. Plus Mahindra vehicle has always been rough & tough, I can take it anywhere. And boy! its a diesel one also. After reading all this +ve and -ve reviews, I will say, You can never get a diesel vehicle, spacious, comfortable, good looking, rugged at such a low cost. All my friend whoever have seen the specification and colour varients they are praising and showing me thumbs up for buying. Last but not the least, Mahindra has struck a stunner. | Reply

The front of the vehicle can be more aero dynamic with wider windscreen, side mirrors should have indicators, the fog lamps can be the lenghty one, head light to be redesigned, the grill are not matching. I feel little more modification has to be done on the front view of the MPV. I am not that impressed with the design, but to check with the performance by test drive. | Reply

If the same vehicle had a BMW badge or anything similar... the very same people would've gone WOWWW!!! C'mon people, let us all atleast wait to test the performance of the vehicle and have a look at it in person. Think twice before commenting on anthing designed or made from scratch in India. I popped in to check out the new big Mahindra and must say that its beauty is within and not on its exterior. Surely it is not in the Innova's class - much more better than that in fact! Features and pricing and space are high value for families and if as yu say the handling and braking plus other factors are of high class, then it is not the Innova we should feel sory for but cars like Fiesta, Verna and also Scorpio and Logan! Will the Xylo be available in 4x4 drive? It looks like a double axled rugged military vehicle. The looks are not a disaster, but version improvements at a later stage will witness a highly developed Xylo. For the space and target market it is definitely a good buy. Looks are not everything after all- its the performance on which Xylo is definitely superior to Innova. I am a little confused between Innova and Xylo because I like Innovas looks and Specifications and technical superiority of Xylo. I wish Innova could provide Diesel engine, more engine power and was about 1.5 lakhs cheaper. A Test drive should help decide. | Reply

Macho looks! Can take it on long drives cross country across hilly terrains too without getting tired. Diesel Engine is great! The mileage is also quite acceptable. Good ground clearance. Robust MPV! Good choice of colours will defintely appeal to different type of people. M&M has once again stood true to its image of sturdiness and ruggedness. Will definitely appeal to a certain class of people who are adventurous and cross country circuiters!! | Reply

The Xylo is a spacious vehicle, the interiors are absolutely great! For its price its a value buy. Also its a Diesel vehicle so that makes it economical to operate. Thankfully we have power windows and power steering which will definitely make Xylo a smooth running vehicle. I am sure Indian manufacturers will become great car makers as they are doing it independently. Remember ISRO started with humble beginnings and did not take foreign help. Xylo is a excellent product and Iam sure it will do well. | Reply

While buying a car Technical Specifications are also a key element. Xylo definitely packs more in terms of technology and ergonomics. the engine, the fuel efficiency, torque are better than Innova. The pricing is absolutely perfect. Considering that this M&M and Tata are the only companies manufacturing an Indian R&D car it is admirable. Foreign cars in India are great but they are manufacturing it in India only because of low cost manufacturing and govt controls. M&M will be able to deliver a truly global car in about 5-8 years from today. Well done keep it up! Xylo is a vlaue buy definitely. | Reply

But the costs are no where close to the Alto. Is this supposed to be value for money? Sir, this title is only with 1 manufacturer in our country - Tata Motors.
