With the Akurdi plant up and running, Bajaj has resumed online bookings for its electric scooter: the Chetak. The bookings were put on hold as the entire country was under lockdown due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Even when it was deemed safe enough to resume operations, the timelines for the availability of certain components of the electric scooter were still unknown. It seems that Bajaj has got a grip on the components and it will first clear all the pending orders for the Chetak.
Bajaj currently sells its electric scooter only in Pune and Bengaluru. Service centres in the two cities have also commenced operations. Bajaj had delivered 91 units of the Chetak before the lockdown was imposed and in case a few of them needed some TLC, it can be carried out now.
The Chetak was launched right at the start of the year in two variants: Urbane (Rs 1 lakh) and Premium (Rs 1.15 lakh). The styling of the scooter is reminiscent of the modern-day Vespa. The Chetak is powered by a 4kW BLDC motor that puts out 16Nm. The real-world range of the Chetak is 95km in Eco mode and 85km in Sport mode. If you want to know how it rides, check out our first ride report from when we took a short spin on the Chetak earlier this year.
