The electric motorcycle will be launched by mid-2020

Let’s play a game of buzzword bingo with the new Mantis. Does your card say “Built by a start-up in Bengaluru?” Yep, you’re off to a running start.

“Does it have polarising looks?”
Bingo again! You see, the Mantis takes its inspiration from the praying mantis, and even the most ardent National Geographic watcher will admit that insect is no great shakes in the looks department.

Polarising looks aside, the electric motor in the Mantis is capable of producing 25kW of peak power, which is similar to the Ultraviolette F77. While the F77 has a top speed of 147kmph, the Mantis can go up to 140kmph.

“Did anyone get the top speed? How about acceleration?”
The Mantis claims a sub-10-second 0-100kmph figure - 8 seconds to be precise.

The rest of the package is pretty de rigeur: The Mantis gets 9kWh swappable lithium-ion batteries that can be charged either at home or swapped at a battery station that the company will set up in the coming months, just as we have seen with Revolt. Orxa, the startup behind it, claims that the batteries can be fully juiced up in 3.5 hours from a standard charger. There’s no fast charger as of now.

“And now for the full house, how far can it go?”
Orxa claims a “real range” of 200km, which is one of the highest we’ve heard for an Indian electric bike. It’s significantly more than even the F77’s claimed range of 150km on a single charge. It gets 41mm telescopic forks at the front and a monoshock at the rear.

Orxa Energies hasn’t revealed the final price, but the company is aiming to keep it between Rs 3 lakh and 4 lakh. The electric motorcycle will be launched by mid-2020. But most importantly, did anyone get a full house? Let us know in the comments.
