In this edition of the Zig performance comparison report, we lineup the Mahindra XUV 3XO and Tata Nexon. Both the subcompact SUVs featured here are powered by a diesel manual powertrain and we are going to find out which made-in-India sub-4 metre SUV is quicker. Let the games begin!

On paper, the XUV 3XO puts out 2PS and 40Nm more than the Tata Nexon. Does this advantage help the XUV 3XO beat the Nexon in our acceleration tests? Let’s find out:

Whoa! That was super close to the line. Despite the minor power deficit, it was the Tata Nexon that managed to cross the line first in the 0-100kmph run and that too, just by around 0.2 seconds! A very similar gap can be seen in both the roll-on acceleration runs in third and fourth gear, where the Nexon managed to beat the XUV300.

But in the real world, both cars offer more than satisfactory performance to keep you smiling. Just a point to note is that the XUV 3XO’s clutch is a bit sensitive and it can tend to stall at slower speeds.
