New Delhi's transport department has allowed the sale of the Bajaj V15 150cc motorcycle and new Suzuki Access 125 scooter despite the fact that they aren’t BS-IV compliant

It’s good news for Bajaj Auto and Suzuki Motorcycle India Ltd. New Delhi's transport department has announced that the Bajaj V15 and the new Suzuki Access 125 scooter can go on sale in the capital city of our country. Keeping in mind the increasing pollution levels in Delhi, the transport department had stopped the sale of any new two-wheeler that was launched which didn’t comply with the BS-IV emission norms. Officially the BS-IV norms are set to be made mandatory for any new two-wheeler that goes on sale across the country from April 1st, 2016 onwards. Existing models that are launched till March 31 need to upgrade to BS-IV from April 1st, 2017.

The new Suzuki Access 125 has been priced at Rs 53,887 ex-showroom Delhi for the base model. The scooter will be offered in two variants, the base drum version with steel wheels has been introduced while the disc brake version with alloy wheels will be launched soon.

Aesthetically the new Access has been completely redesigned. It now features a larger redesigned headlamp which gives the scooter a retro appeal. The tail lamp cluster is also new and comes with a wraparound styling and LED brake light flanked by clear indicators. It also now sports a semi-digital instrument console unit. Mechanically the scooter remains identical to the outgoing model. It still employs the 125cc single cylinder motor producing 9PS of max power and 10Nm of peak torque. That said, Suzuki has fiddled with the engine to reduce frictional losses by introducing its SEP or Suzuki Eco Performance technology to improve fuel efficiency and performance. The new Access claims a fuel efficiency of 64kmpl.

Bajaj V15

The Bajaj V15 retails for Rs 62,000 (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The Bajaj V15 is more of a café-racer with hints of a cruiser bike. With the price at which it has been launched, the V15 slots itself in the gap between the Discover and Pulsar motorcycle range. Powering the Bajaj V15 is an air-cooled 150cc DTS-i four-stroke single cylinder engine which produces 12PS of power at 7,500 rpm and 13Nm of peak torque at 5,500 rpm, is mated to a 5-speed gearbox.
