Mahindra recently introduced the Earth Edition for the Thar SUV. This special edition, based on the top-end LX variant, boasts visual updates inside and out, along with few differences from the standard variant. Priced from Rs 15.40 lakh (ex-showroom), it carries a premium of Rs 40,000 over the respective LX variants. If you are eyeing one, here are the key differences between the Earth Edition and the standard Thar.
The Thar Earth Edition stands out primarily due to its exclusive Desert Fury exterior shade which is a satin matte beige hue. It also features body decals as standard, but if you want them in the standard Thar, you can accessorise it, but with a different pattern. Additionally, the special edition Thar gets Desert Fury-coloured inserts on the ORVMs and front grille, along with blacked-out badging, details of which you can find here.
The biggest change on the inside of the Thar Earth Edition is it boasts black and beige leatherette seat upholstery, in contrast to the all-black fabric upholstery in the standard Thar. Additionally, the Earth Edition features an all-black dashboard with Desert Fury inserts on the AC vents and steering wheel. Furthermore, the special model gets sand dunes-inspired embossing on the seat headrests and unique Earth Edition Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) plates that starts with the serial number ‘1’. Lastly, splashes of dark chrome and gloss black plastics spruce up the overall interior ambience.
Another key disparity the Earth Edition has over the standard Thar is that you can only configure it with four-wheel-drive, while the LX variants of the Thar offer both rear-wheel-drive and four-wheel-drive.
The Earth Edition only offers you a choice between the 150 PS 2-litre turbo-petrol engine and the 130 PS 2.2-litre diesel engine, whereas the standard Thar also offers an additional 118 PS 1.5-litre diesel engine option (RWD only). Both the models offer transmission choices including a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission. Do note that the 1.5-litre diesel engine available with the standard Thar is only paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
If you opt for the Thar Earth Edition, your choice will be limited to a fixed hardtop, whereas with the standard Thar, you can configure it with a convertible soft top, allowing you to drop the roof and enjoy the weather.
Finally, with the Thar Earth Edition, you also receive additional accessories such as 7D floor mats, front and rear armrests, and a comfort kit, which includes seat cushions for added comfort. However, these accessories can also be added to the standard Thar, but of course in a different colour scheme.
Share your thoughts in the comments: would you spend the additional premium for the exclusivity that the Thar Earth Edition offers, or would you stick with the LX variants of the standard Thar?
