Powertrain

Altroz’ CNG kit is paired to its 1.2-litre NA petrol powertrain, just like the one in the Tigor CNG. The CNG output stands at 73.4PS and 103Nm, which is slightly less than the petrol’s output of 86PS and 113Nm. There is only a single five-speed manual transmission available.

Unique twin cylinder setup

The party trick of the Altroz CNG that sets it apart from the rest is its unique twin-cylinder configuration. Tata has done away with a single tank, instead dividing it into two smaller units placed next to each other. This saves a considerable amount of space in the trunk, confirmed by its 210-litre boot capacity. And the best part is it still has a space saver spare wheel mounted underneath the car like you find on SUVs and MPVs. So best of both worlds in our opinion.

Being offered throughout the hatchback’s range, the CNG variants pack features such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control and cruise control. Now these are just the standard features that the Altroz gets, and the CNG trims even come with additional comforts like a sunroof and wireless phone charger, both of which are expected to be available with rest of the powertrains soon.

Safety kit is unchanged and continues with dual airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors with camera.

So with a premium of up to Rs 7.55 lakh, the CNG variants offer a cleaner and more efficient drive experience while also upping the game in terms of creature comforts. It is the third premium hatchback in the country to get a factory-fitted CNG kit, after the Maruti Baleno and Toyota Glanza siblings. The Hyundai i20 is now the only non-CNG offering in this segment.
